Rare and unusual happenings on the network for September 24 to 30

UK Wide

September 24

Class 20s Nos. 20311+20314 top-and tail with Nos. 20096+20107 powered a delivery of S7 stock for London Underground from Old Dalby to Neasden (7X09).

DCR No. 31601 hauled three Mk 2 coaches and two newly converted barrier vehicles (for S-stock movements) from Long Marston to Derby via Evesham and Bromsgrove (6Z31). Meanwhile sister loco No. 31602 hauled seven Mk 2 coaches from Yeovil Junction to Okehampton via Westbury (5Z31), leaving three of them there for the Dartmoor Railway and taking the others forward to Taunton.

A Network Rail test train (1Q14) ran to Blackpool North powered by Type 3 No. 37682.

West Coast Railway's no-heat Type 4 No. 47245 hauled light pacific No. 34067 'Tangmere' and a rake of stock from Bristol to Southall (5Z35).

September 25

Class 31 No. 31601 hauled a rake of Mk 2 stock from Crewe to Dereham, on the Mid-Norfolk Railway, via Leicester and Ely (5Z31). The Virgin and Intercity-liveried coaches were going to the MNR for temporary store.

Type 4 No. 47826 ran north from Carnforth to Fort William (5Z47) with a single first-class Mk 1 coach.

DCR No. 56311 hauled preserved Class 50 No. 50026 'Indomitable' and No. 56091 from Washwood Heath to York NRM (0Z56).

DBS Class 67s Nos. 67020 and 67022 double-headed an MoD train from Marchwood (near Southampton) to Didcot (6V38). Meanwhile classmate No. 67006 'Queen's Messenger' hauled an unidentified Class 332 EMU from Old Oak Common to Wolverton Works (7Z04) before returning light engine to Wembley.

The afternoon Shieldmuir to Warrington mail working (1M44) was formed of silver-liveried No. 67026 'Diamond Jubilee' hauling mail units Nos. 325004, 325015 and 325001.
