UK’s largest electrical retailers launch innovative shopping experience on commuter train to rescue last minute gift buyers
Christmas shoppers can purchase tablets, eReaders, headphones and many more tech gifts on their train journey home bringing new meaning to shopping ‘on line’
Currys and PC World today announced the launch of a gadget gift trolley trial which will take place on Wednesday 19th December as the UK’s largest electrical retailers hope to rescue last minute Christmas shoppers.
Commuters and those travelling home for Christmas on the popular East Midlands Trains service from London St Pancras to Nottingham will be able to purchase top gadget gifts directly from the trolley including iPads, Beats headphones and the ‘Paperwhite’ Kindle, as well as holiday essentials such as spare batteries and memory cards.
The unique Currys and PC World trolley service will run alongside the train’s standard refreshments trolley allowing passengers to purchase tea ‘n’ tablets. The trial is part of Currys and PC World’s Christmas campaign to inspire shoppers with exciting gift ideas and, if popular, may be built upon next year.
Tablets are already proving a hero seller this year for Currys and PC World with one sold every second on Mega Monday, and the retailers predict continued sales of one sold every two seconds between now and Christmas.
Consequently, tablets including the new iPad, iPad Mini and Google Nexus 7 will be on the trolley for commuters. Stocking filler gifts will also be available to take away, such as ‘Hear muffs’ (earmuff headphones), Kindle and iPad cases, and iPod Nanos.
Jeremy Fennell, e-Commerce & Multichannel Director for Currys and PC World, commented: ”We are always looking to innovate, and do everything we can to make our customers' shopping experience more convenient. The Currys and PC World gift trolley offers total convenience at a particularly stressful time of the year for shopping. In store, online, on mobile and now on board a train, we’re making this Christmas even easier for our customers.”
Neil Micklethwaite, Customer Service and Commercial Director for East Midlands Trains, said: "It's great to be teaming up with Currys and PC World to offer something extra to our passengers this festive season, especially as we expect thousands of passengers in the week leading up to Christmas.
“Passengers can already buy their presents online using our on-board WiFi, but the gifting trolley will enable them to get all their last minute gifts instantly. We're constantly on the look out for ideas for how our services and facilities can be improved, and we think this is a great initiative that will hopefully prove popular with our passengers."
