Santa Stopping Shopping Train Beats Christmas Traffic Congestion

The West Somerset Railway and First Great Western are jointly promoting a Christmas shopping train calling at many stations between Minehead, Bristol and Cardiff on December 10th.

Christmas Shopping by Rail

The train will be formed from a First Great Western Class 150 diesel railcar departs Minehead at 8.40 a.m. and calls at all West Somerset Railway stations (except Doniford Halt) to Bishops Lydeard from where it will depart at 9.45 a.m.. It is scheduled to arrive in Bristol Temple Meads at 11.12 a.m. and Cardiff an hour later. Departure from Cardiff is at 4.00 p.m. and Bristol Temple Meads at 4.43 p.m. and is due bak at Bishops Lydeard at 6.20 p.m. and Minehead at 7.35 p.m.

Bookings and Fares

There is a limit of 150 seats on the trip and tickets must be booked in advance by ringing 01643 704996 or online on the link shown.

The fares on the train, which includes a booking fee for each transaction are £24.50 adult and senior, £49.50 for a family of 2 adults/seniors and 2 children and £10.00 for each additional child under the age of 16 for a day out in Bristol and £29.50 adult and senior, £65.00 for a family and £14.50 child for a day out in Cardiff. There is a £1.60 handling charge for each booking.

Cardiff and Bristol are not easy destinations to drive into and park on weekends before Christmas so this is a great way to beat the traffic and have an enjoyable day out!
